What’s up you legend!
Truth is, most brands know how important email is for their marketing strategy (and if they don’t… well, they should lol).
And if you're reading this right now, you probably know the importance of it too. You are on my email list after all ;)
But after working with several brands over the past year and helping them generate over $435,000 in revenue from email, there are a few crucial mistakes I’ve seen them make when it comes to their email marketing strategy.
Mistakes that are quite literally costing them thousands of dollars each month.
So today I want to share 4 email marketing mistakes you should avoid like the plague if you want to add thousands of extra dollars each month to your business.
Sound like a plan?
Alright, here they are:
1 • Not having a way to capture new leads
Lead generation is the bread and butter of any business.
Because if you don’t have new leads coming to you each day… well, you won’t have much business do you?
So you need need need a way to generate new leads.
And the best way to do that?
Sales assets and lead magnets. Think case studies, VSL’s, free resources, special discounts…
Traffic → Sales asset → Email list
2 • Not nurturing new subscribers
It’s insane to me how many brands don’t welcome new email subscribers and nurture them to become customers.
If someone just opted-in to receive your lead magnet, they’re interested in you and your brand.
So take advantage of that with an email welcome sequence:
- Share your story and experiences
- Highlight the problem they’re facing
- Offer to solve that problem with your products and services
If you want a way to turn readers into buyers ASAP? An email welcome sequence is the solution you’re looking for.
3 • Not sending emails consistently
I’ll be honest with you… this is something I was doing up until recently.
I’d send one email one week, take a few weeks off, and then come back acting like nothing ever happened.
No harm no foul, right? Wrong.
Because if you have an offer you want to sell, you have to stay top of mind.
Think about it. If I need a plumber to fix my toilet today, who am I going to call:
The plumber who I saw on Instagram once last week or the plumber who sends helpful content straight to my inbox three times a week (and who I received an email from this morning)?
Right, the one who sent me an email this morning.
Whether you like it or not, attention's the name of the game baby.
So if you send emails to your audience, do not be inconsistent with your sending frequency.
It could be once a week or it could be every day. Just make sure you pick a cadence you can stick with.
4 • Never testing anything
This is arguably the biggest mistake any marketer could ever make (it's actually one of the seven deadly sins now that I think of it).
Because if you’re never testing anything, you never know what will work and what won’t.
So test as much as you can as often as you can:
- Subject lines
- Hooks
- CTA’s
Test to find out what works and what doesn’t.
Then when you find out? Double down on what works and eliminate what doesn’t.
That’s the real secret to making money with your email list.

Alright, there’s wayyyy more things I could have covered here.
But this one's already getting too long so I’m going to cut it there.
So if you want to make thousands of dollars each month from email, avoid the 4 mistakes above like the plague. And instead:
- Have a consistent way to capture new leads
- Nurture your audience with a welcome sequence
- Send emails consistently to always stay top of mind
- Test everything to find what works… then double down on it
