Well, another year has come and gone just like that. And it’s still hard to believe that 2024 is in less than three days!

Anyways, welcome back to another edition of Find The Good Friday, a weekly newsletter where we share helpful resources, one inspiring quote, one quick tip, and one find the good story to help you find the good this upcoming week.

Our goal is to help you get through the good and the bad days, the ups and the downs, and anything else that stands between you and a smile on your face.

This week's focus: Setting goals to find the good in the new year.

Here’s a list of some of my favorite resources this week. If you have the time to check them out, I’d highly recommend it!

As we approach the end of the year, a lot of people are going to be setting New Year’s resolutions (you might even be one of them!).

But I’ll admit... I won’t be. I’ve never been one for setting resolutions. Why? Because most of the time, they’re way too broad. Sure, you might set great goals. But if you don’t know how you’re going to get there, and more importantly why you want to get there? 99% of the time, they’ll fail.

So instead of setting these massive resolutions for 2024, I’m going to be reflecting on this past year and setting much smaller, more attainable goals each month. And I’m going to do that by following the “What, Why, How, When” equation.

What do I want to accomplish? Why do I want to accomplish that thing? How am I going to accomplish it (break it down into smaller steps)? And when do I want to accomplish it by?

If you break things down into smaller pieces like this, your big and intimidating goals won’t seem nearly as scary. And you’ll soon realize they’re much more attainable than you initially thought they were.

So as you set your goals for this upcoming year, I encourage you to try this out for yourself and write down how you plan to achieve your goals. Just remember... the small things lead to the big things.

“For years, I struggled with severe depression and anxiety. I used to just sit in my room all the time and cry for no reason. After about four years of this struggle, I was prompted to write out a gratitude list, which is essentially a list of everything I have to be thankful for. Once I started doing this, everything changed!

I started looking for every place in my life filled with good. Years later, I still find myself doing this as a daily practice. Things change when we look for the good! If you struggle with depression or anxiety, just know you’re not alone. Life can feel so heavy sometimes, but that’s not the whole story. There is so much to be grateful for, here and now. Look for the good because it will change things for you just like it did for me!"
