Welcome to the creator economy, where it seems like everyone and their grandma are selling an online course these days. Crypto investments, step-by-step guide to affiliate marketing, how to lose weight…
If you can think it, I’m sure there’s a course out there somewhere.
Nowadays, internet tools make it easier than ever to create an online course. So easy, in fact, that anyone can create one with just a few hours of work.
But while many people have taken advantage of the opportunity, few have the right systems in place to make big money from selling them.
So if you’re looking to 2x your course sales in the next 60 days, this article’s for you.
Thanks to the internet, there’s just 4 things you need if you want to make big money as a course creator. These 4 things are…
- Email list
- Lead magnet
- Email Sequences
- Consistent content
Let’s take a closer look at each one and explore how you can use them to increase your course sales.
Setting Up An Email List

There’s one thing I hear creators say over and over again:
I wish I started my email list sooner.
Why is that? Because no matter how powerful you think social media is, email is much, much more powerful for selling products and building a brand. With an email list, you can…
Own Your Audience
Listen, tech companies like Facebook and Twitter can ban your account without warning. And if that happens, the audience you worked so hard to build can disappear in the blink of an eye.
But with an email list? You actually own your audience. So if you haven’t already, start collecting their emails. That way if anything happens to your social media accounts, you’ll still have a valuable digital asset and audience you can sell to.
Leverage Automations
With the tools at your dispense, you can leverage email automations to sell your course and products on autopilot. Build once, sell forever — even when you sleep.
Target Specific Groups
Email software allows you to target specific segments of your audience. Is someone interested in marketing? Did someone click a link in your last email? Powerful analytics help you better understand the interests and behaviors of your audience.
Increase Conversion Rates
Email has a much higher conversion rate than selling on social media. Why? Because with email, you have a greater chance to build trust and nurture your audience. Email’s conversion rate is at least 3x higher than that of social media. So yeah, I think the numbers speak for themself.
Build Deeper Relationships
Email gives you the chance to build a deeper, more lasting relationship with your audience. Get to know them by asking questions, discovering their interests, why they joined your email list… Social media can often feel ingenuine. You can only share so much. So take the time to build a more personal and deeper connection with your email subscribers.
Now that you understand why it’s so important to build an email list, how do you actually start one?
Well, the first step is rather simple:
Pick an email provider and sign up for an account. Some popular ones include…
- MailerLite
- Mailchimp
- ConvertKit
- ActiveCampaign
Choose one, sign up for an account, and you’re all set to start collecting your first email subscribers!
Now comes the fun part: Actually attracting people to your email list and collecting their information.
Creating a Lead Magnet
You may be wondering: What the heck is a lead magnet?
Don’t worry, I was asking myself the same question just a few months ago.
A lead magnet is something you give away for free in exchange for an email address. I’m sure you’ve seen them before without even realizing it. Some common examples include…
- eBook
- Case study
- Email course
- Discount code
- Design templates
It doesn’t really matter what your lead magnet is. The important part is it helps your audience solve a specific problem of theirs.
For example, you’re reading this article right now. Which means you’re likely interested in building an email list of your own.
That’s why I created this free email course to help you build and monetize your email list in 7 days.
See how it works? Your lead magnet should act as the solution to a problem your audience has.
So take the time to brainstorm a few problems your audience faces. Then, come up with some ways you could package up a solution into some sort of lead magnet.
Now that you’ve signed up for an email provider and created a lead magnet, we’re on to the next step… building your email sequences.
Building Your Email Sequences
There are two important email sequences all course creators need:
- Welcome sequence
- Thank you sequence
But what exactly are these?
Welcome Sequence
A welcome sequence is an automated series of emails sent over the span of a few days or weeks.
The goal of your welcome sequence is to nurture and build a relationship with your audience. It should be used to gain trust and educate your reader, typically on the topic your lead magnet helps solve.
So how do you do this?
By sharing your story and experiences. Share the problems you once faced and how you overcame them. Show how you were once in your reader’s shoes and that you’re not much different from them. And remember… show, don’t tell.
Nurture your audience and make them aware of the problem they’re facing. Then introduce the solution to that problem (this will ultimately be your course).
Here’s a diagram of the five stages of customer awareness you want to take your reader on throughout your welcome sequence.

Hopefully by the time your reader makes it through your welcome sequence, you’ll have received a few course sales.
Remember, people buy from those they trust. And the goal of your welcome sequence is to build that trust.
Now, after someone buys your course… be sure to thank them!
Thank You Sequence
It’s crucial you funnel your buyers into a short thank you sequence.
Similar to the welcome sequence, your thank you sequence is the time to show appreciation for your customers. You can also use it to provide even more value or explain how to get the most out of your course.
A few days after buying your course, ask if they have any questions or would be willing to leave a review (just be sure to give them enough time to go through the course).
Your thank you sequence is also the perfect time to upsell any other products or services you offer.
Alright, now you should have everything set up behind the scenes.
Your lead magnet is collecting emails on autopilot. Your welcome sequence is helping build a relationship with your audience and making sales while you sleep. Your thank you sequence is strengthening your relationship and keeping your customers coming back for more.
Now the only thing left to do is promote your course!
But how do you get people interested in — let alone aware — of your course?
Creating Consistent Content

Nowadays, social media makes promoting your work easier than ever. All you have to do is pick a platform and consistently start posting value. It doesn’t matter which platform you choose. Start off with the one you’re most comfortable or familiar with:
- TikTok
- Medium
- YouTube
The idea is the same no matter which platform you choose: Provide valuable content every single day.
If you want to build an audience and attract people to your course, your goal should be to educate them and provide as much value as possible.
Become the go-to person in your niche.
And don’t forget to have a link to your lead magnet in your bio and promote it daily! If people find your content valuable, they’ll be eager to learn just how much your lead magnet can help them.
Here’s a simple formula you can follow:
Daily content + Email list + Offer = $$$
Repurposing Your Content
After you’ve started building an audience on one platform, branch out and repurpose your content to other platforms.
For example, let’s say you’ve created a blog article like the one you’re reading now. Take that blog and turn it into a script for a YouTube video. Take that YouTube video and turn it into multiple TikTok videos. Take those TikTok videos and turn them into Instagram posts.
If you want to grow an audience quickly, learn to turn one idea into many.
And that’s it! If you follow these steps, I guarantee your course sales will skyrocket over the next 60 days.
While this article taught you how to increase your course sales, you can use this same blueprint even if you offer a service or want to increase your sales with affiliate marketing.
